Paul McCartney Lead Guitarist Joins Winter in the High Sierra
Winter in the High Sierra Theatrical Trailer Launches with Original Composition!
A World Class Musician Meets a Gilded Age Story
You read that right, folks. Laurence Juber, world-renowned guitar virtuoso and former lead guitarist for Paul McCartney and Wings, recently joined me and Ashwood Press to create today's big reveal, the theatrical trailer for Winter in the High Sierra.
I've been a fan of LJ (as he is known to his large and devoted following) for many years . . . but recently I had the unique pleasure of working with him personally. LJ and I share a passion for Martin & Company guitars—especially really old ones.
I own a 1900 Model 1-28 and LJ owns an 1893 Model 1-21–and so given the Gilded Age setting of 'Sierra', I asked him if he might consider playing something for our new trailer with his vintage instrument.
To my great joy, he agreed enthusiastically. And while I fully expected him to select some appropriate period tune—instead LJ composed and performed an all-new, all-original piece called Snowbound* specifically for Winter in the High Sierra.
Not only is Snowbound a gorgeous, evocative piece of music—and perfectly harmonious with the tone of the book—but also if you've never heard an 1893 guitar in full flight (and under LJ's deft fingers), now's your chance. And remember—since the book is set in 1899, LJ's 1893 guitar would have been entertaining people for six years by the time Louisa MacGregor first stepped aboard her doomed Sierra Pacific train.
My heartfelt thanks to LJ for his very special contribution. You can find out more about LJ and his music at his website, LaurenceJuber.com.
There are two versions of our trailer for your pleasure today: one with music and title cards, and another with both music and a voice-over narration by yours truly. Whichever you choose, I hope you will find the experience uplifting. (Better still, watch both versions to discover which speaks most to your heart.)
