The Sidecar, a Gilded Age Cocktail

 

The Sidecar was a very popular cocktail in the Gilded Age. When you taste it, you’ll see why. It’s cheerful, delicious, and a fun way to recreate a bit of the turn of the century social experience.

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 ounces cognac
  • 3/4 ounce orange liqueur (such as Cointreau)
  • 3/4 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • Garnish: orange twist or mint leaf (as shown)
  • Garnish: sugar rim (optional)

 

Tools - Optional:

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Cocktail stirrer
  • Side plate for sugar for rim (if using)

 

Steps to a Delicious Sidecar:

  • Coat the rim of a coupe or wine glass with sugar, if desired, and set aside
  • Add the cognac, orange liqueur and lemon juice to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled
  • Strain into the prepared glass
  • Garnish with an orange twist or mint leaf
