The Sidecar, a Gilded Age Cocktail

The Sidecar was a very popular cocktail in the Gilded Age. When you taste it, you’ll see why. It’s cheerful, delicious, and a fun way to recreate a bit of the turn of the century social experience.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 ounces cognac
- 3/4 ounce orange liqueur (such as Cointreau)
- 3/4 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- Garnish: orange twist or mint leaf (as shown)
- Garnish: sugar rim (optional)
Tools - Optional:
- Cocktail shaker
- Cocktail stirrer
- Side plate for sugar for rim (if using)
Steps to a Delicious Sidecar:
- Coat the rim of a coupe or wine glass with sugar, if desired, and set aside
- Add the cognac, orange liqueur and lemon juice to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled
- Strain into the prepared glass
- Garnish with an orange twist or mint leaf
